Project Proposal

For my final project, I have decided to use my skills and knowledge of writing and art to create a poetry piece based on space. I've chosen a written piece as my writing courses have given me great knowledge and enjoyment over the past two years.  Although there are many definitions of space, today, we are going through a worldwide pandemic that is affecting us all in different ways.

Space: a continuous area or expanse which is free, available, or unoccupied.

From this definition, we can see that space is a huge subject and as such, it can be interpreted broadly. I’ve chosen to approach it from a personal perspective, with the recent COVID isolation experience in mind. We must create our own space in times like these. I plan on doing a few poems based on my different conceptions of space and what it means to me. The individual poems will also incorporate some line drawings to bring the poems to life. My approach will be a little difficult as I must first dig deep and define my views of space. My creative prompt and theme will be the time of day; I will start with the morning, continue with the afternoon and end with the evening/night, defining my range of experiences throughout the day.

For my research, I would like to read a few different poetry pieces again, just to engulf myself in the world of poetry once more, as I have previously adored it. My main choice of study will be a young poet named Madisen Kuhn, whose writing style is very similar to mine. My poetry will be free-verse, and will not have a specific rhythm to it. The art will be black and white, simple line drawings that have an effect and persuade readers to engage in my poetry.

This project will be edited electronically and is titled "Speech of Space".

Required Materials will be a few poetry books to study, a computer to write and put together the poetry and a tablet to prepare the drawings. No other material is required.
